Adopt an Important Bird Area
Would you like to put your birding skills and interest in birds to work for conservation here in North Carolina? If so then ANC’s Adopt an IBA program is for you. You can help in so many ways including providing ANC staff with checklist data when you visit an IBA, helping with projects already underway in IBAs like Christmas Bird Counts, Spring Counts, or Breeding Bird Survey routes, by helping staff identify issues and threats to the IBA, and if you want, by conducting annual monitoring through point counts and surveys just like staff biologists.
To get involved, for you or your chapter or local bird club, log onto www.ncaudubon.org and follow the links to the IBA document, pick an IBA and contact Curtis at csmalling@audubon.org and get started. He will provide you with information, training, and answer your specific questions. With over 4 million acres in our 90+ IBA’s, ANC needs everyone’s help. Several chapters, individuals, and groups have already signed up to help conserve our most important areas for birds
